Barn Quilts of North Carolina

Barn quilts got their start in Ohio but are gaining popularity in other states.

Ashe County in North Carolina was one of three counties in the state invited to be part of a program to create barn quilts.  The original program being funded by a grant.

When my husband and I were there we saw quilts on barns, businesses, homes, schools...

Ashe county features over 150 quilts!

You can spend a couple days to see them all.

Some were quite modern...

Pretty complex...

This one was on a quintessential southern home...

I love when businesses catch the wave...

My absolute favorite!

Some of these were really off the beaten path and hard to find.

Love to see the crops and barns mixed with the quilt!

Gorgeous!

This was built in 1895 and a general store was opened in 1925.  It operated until the owners death in 1994.

Love this quilt on a black barn!

Barn quilts...they aren't just in Ohio anymore!
